Ludwig van Beethoven: Violin Sonata no.9 in A major, op.47 "Kreutzer" (I. Adagio Sostenuto-Presto).
Violin: Marian Holness;
Piano: Athanasios Nenes;
Page turning: Marina Papageorgiou
Introduction comments (by M.Holness):
This sonata was a watershed piece for Beethoven, marking the leap from a gifted, innovative
composer to the revolutionary activist who rewrote the rules
of musical art. He dedicated it to Robert Kreutzer, who never actually played it. Who refused to perform it. He said "it's toxic for the violin and by implication toxic for the audience, because it makes absolutely no sense musically, and its also too difficult".
